I arrived in Grayland, at the Casa Sea Esta rental, on the afternoon of August 5 and set up a 160' DKAZ on the beach, just beyond the berm. I was working quickly and ended up pointing at 235 deg with the following results: - 25dB on KOMO-1000 [59deg] and KJR-950 [60deg], NOTHING on KXTG-750 [140deg] and KSWB-840 [171deg] So was nulling Seattle but not Portland area stations. On August 6th I moved the antenna 20 degees North - 255 deg. - with following results: - 15-20dB on 1000 and 950, 25+dB null on 750 but still NOTHING on 840 Good enough! I arrived at the Sans Souci rental, near Florence, OR, on Thursday August 9 and erected the same 160' DKAZ pointing 262 deg in a new spot I had not used before. I got good nulls on KFIR-720 [73 deg.] and KXOR-660 [82 deg.] All went well at Sans Souci until the last morning of my stay when I found one of the masts broke in half and folded over when I went out to the car at 6am [1300utc]. I shoved the broken section down into the next lower section and set things up straight, though quite a bit shorter than it should be. Things worked but nulls were not sharp and signals not as strong. I suspect a deer or elk went thru the antenna sometime during the night. Both are common in the area. Vactrols were used for nulling at both locations and worked fine. Kite string guys were also used and extend the time needed to erect and take down the antenna.
